Michigan State Spartan Brett Swenson, number 14, ranks as one of the top kickers in the nation according to Phil Steele’s College Football Preview, the Football Writers Association of America, and a number of other sources.
Brett Swenson attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Over his high school career, he ranked as one of the nations top five high school kickers. He scored 81 points his senior year, and converted 7-of-11 field goal attempts, with 57 kickoffs resulting in touchbacks.
Freshman year saw Brett Swenson named first-team Freshman All-American by Scripps/Football Writers Association of America, The Sporting News, Collegefootballnews.com and Rivals.com. He scored 98 points his sophomore year (trailing behind Spartan Jehuu Caulcrick, who scored a record-setting 21 rushing touchdowns).
In 2008, Brett became the third kicker in Michigan State Spartan history to reach the 100-point milestone, and was named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week three times. Heading into 2009, he ranks among Michigan State University‘s all-time leaders in field goals.
